The place

A family,a place, a way of doing things.

Otentika was not designed as a tourism product. It is a way of living that opened its door to visitors.

A simple intention

The project came from an idea Westley carried: to let visitors experience the Rodrigues he knows, the one he grew up in, rather than a version arranged to please.

That means giving up certain conveniences. No catalogue, no fixed departure times whatever the sea is doing, no promise that cannot be kept.

Rooted at Rivière Banane

Rivière Banane is not merely a departure point. It is the heart of Otentika: the family has lived, worked, farmed and cooked here for generations.

The sea, the land and the house are not three separate businesses. They are one way of living, and that is what is shared.

Westley, the link

Westley welcomes, advises, adapts the outings and passes on what he knows. His presence builds trust and keeps the experience human rather than commercial.

But Otentika does not rest on staging one person. The story told is bigger than him: it belongs to a place, a family and a culture that carry on existing without visitors.

The garden, the other half

On the slopes above Rivière Banane, the family grows the vegetables and herbs that end up at The Table. Cabbages, tomatoes, cauliflowers, aromatics. Nothing remarkable, and that is the point: these are the vegetables the family eats.

We do not call this organic, because we hold no certification. We call it grown in the family garden, which is verifiable and enough.

What is ready in the morning shapes the midday meal. A dish can change from one day to the next, or disappear while a crop recovers. That dependence on reality is deliberate: it is more honest than a menu that stays the same all year.

A different idea of tourism

Welcoming people without distorting local life. Valuing skills without turning them into a show. Working with natural conditions rather than against them.

The aim is not to host as many people as possible, nor to string activities together. It is to offer moments that mean something, to people willing to take the time.

And tomorrow

Otentika must be able to support a family and give Rivière Banane its due, without losing what gives it meaning.

Growing must not make it impersonal. Becoming more professional must not erase the simplicity. That balance guides the decisions.

No prices are listed: every visit is arranged with Westley.
